I feel a sense of wonder as I look at the path in the foreground, moving up the steps and disappearing into the fog. There is a softness in the image created by the curves and the atmospheric perspective created by the fog. The softness of the “S” curves in the path is juxtaposed by the harshness of the stones in the foreground and by the linear nature of the steps, even though they have a curve halfway up to soften the effect. There is also a juxtaposition in the ferns between the soft curve of the overall shape and the straight repeating lines of the leaves. My mind wants to feel harmony in the image, but the tree trunk on the right jars that feeling while gaining in the concept of tension, which adds to my emotional response.
